Recycle week to raise the awareness
At Keltic Ties, we have long appreciated the importance of recycling and making the most of the world’s natural resources. Anything which raises awareness of recycling can only be for the good.
As many people will know, the annual Recycle Week took place between the 24th and 30th of September, and here at Keltic Ties, we’ve thoroughly thrown our weight behind the campaign to cut plastic. Perhaps more so than in previous years, this Recycle Week the public consciousness has definitely been more focused on plastic waste.
Plastic oceans
Thanks to the Blue Planet effect we have seen plenty in the media in recent months about ‘plastic oceans’, devastating scenes of the habitats and wildlife affected by the throwaway society we live in and a failure to crack down on waste. There has arguably never been a more critical moment to think about how we use and recycle valuable resources, and that was the main message behind this year’s Recycle Week event.
Now in its fifteenth year, Recycle Week aims to raise awareness of why recycling matters and there is strong evidence of a fightback against throwaway culture. Younger generations, in particular, have grown up to see recycling and upcycling as a way of life rather than something they are ‘forced’ to do by the government or local authorities, and you cannot underestimate the impact global media coverage of plastic pollution has had.
Once the spotlight moves on
There is plenty more which still needs to be done to tackle the scourge of plastics going to waste instead of being repurposed, and it has to start closer to home. Think before you chuck that plastic bottle in the regular trash bin. There are a million and one other purposes that single-use bottle could be put too.
Keltic Ties manufactures eco ties for schools, and getting the young on board with recycling is vital if we’re going to save the planet. Our recycled ties are made from yarn which is made from salvaged plastic bottles, so for every tie we craft, we’re saving two plastic bottles from going to landfill. Now do the maths – two bottles are reused for every tie, and we manufacture 9,000 ties per week from our Lancashire-based factory.
How could you help?
When you buy eco ties from Keltic Ties, you not only save money but you also help save the planet. Sustainability is more than just a buzzword to us. It’s at the core of everything we do and your school can help by supporting a British company who are leading the way in recycled clothing, raising awareness in schools.
Recycle Week may only come around once a year, but it has to be a round-the-year thing if we’re going to make an impact. Minds have been concentrated for a week but hopefully, attitudes will have changed for good as a result. To do your bit, order your school’s eco-friendly ties today.
