Passionate About Eco-Friendly Plastics
At Keltic Ties, we are passionate about eco-friendly plastics and doing our bit to help the planet. As part of this, we regularly donate to important projects. We feel it is important to play our part as much as we can.
Simple things that you can change as we have, are switching to a water dispenser so that refillable cups are being used instead of having bottled water. This will reduce any plastic waste imprint and is a small commitment to make but has a big impact. With recent public its about the longer impact of plastics, we are committed to saving plastic bottles from landfill (which often do end up the sea as well) by recycling them and making ties from them instead.
More recently we have been working towards other ways we can help that are also in line with our “Eco Ties” ethos. One of the projects that we have come into contact with is the Biaza Marine Mammal Programme. As soon as we saw the great work that they do we knew that we had to support them as much as we can. Single-use plastic and plastic bottles often end up in the sea.
In June it was widely reported about a whale dying as a result of plastic consumption. The whale has reportedly died from eating more than 80 plastic bags. Plastic pollution in the ocean is increasing and we believe that we can all do our bit to support projects that aim to help reduce plastic in our oceans. Ocean Plastics say that by 2050 there may be more plastic in our oceans than fish and we know that we need to act now to try and prevent this from happening.
The Biaza Marine Mammal Programme is as a project that we found really fascinating. The programme works closely with the Sea Watch Foundation as well as offering training at a 22-day event which covers Marine Mammal Biology, ecology, Behaviour as well as a look at modern techniques in Marine Mammal Surveys and Conservation. It submits all data to at Sea Watch Foundation meaning that it contributes to the conservation of marine mammals in Wales.
We’ve donated some fleeces to the Biaza Marine Mammal Programme, to support the great work we’re doing, which of course fits in well with what we do. We want to reduce the impact of plastics in the ocean and encourage others to think before they buy single-use plastics and recycle where we can.
Here are a few ways you can help reduce plastic waste and help with plastic pollution:
Carry a reusable bag with you for shopping. You can easily buy one parkway bag that can fit into a pocket or a handbag. They don’t take up much space and last a lot longer as well as being a lot stronger than a plastic bag.
Invest in a reusable bottle or cup. A lot of cafes now give a discount for those that bring along a reusable cup from home. If you do buy a bottle of water then don’t throw away after drinking! These can be reused multiple times.
Arrange a street clean up in your area. These events really benefit both community interaction as well as the local wildlife. If you live near a beach then consider joining in with your local beach clean team.

Say no to plastic straws when drinking out with the kids! If the kids really want to use a straw why not invest in some stainless steel straws that can last a lifetime.

Support those businesses that show an interest in reducing plastic consumption or recycle plastics. Some brands now use paper packaging rather than plastic to send products out and we have even noticed some that reuse old cardboard boxes from their shipments as well.
