Eco ties are the future. How much plastic is recycled?
Our brand new eco ties are striving! We have sent out a lot of eco ties to schools across the UK. Two school academy orders alone save a humongous 1,700 plastic bottles from going to a landfill site. The academy now have their very own certificate to prove it. Hear about our new way of making eco ties. To find out what eco ties are and the purpose behind them click here.
Why is the world going mad about recycling. Are we doing enough for the environment? Here are some scary facts that may encourage recycling, and consequently a greener planet.
Eco watch say;
- 50% of plastic is used ONCE and thrown away
- Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth four times
- Approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide annually. More than one million bags are used every minute.
- 46% of plastics float (EPA 2006) and it can drift for years before concentrating in the oceans

How can schools encourage children to recycle more?
Check out our website for FREE eco tie posters. Schools can download 2 different types of posters from our website. The posters can be put up in classrooms, corridors and meeting rooms to help spread the word. The bin posters are to attach to the sides of recycling bins.
Parents and teachers are at the centre of encouraging children to recycle. If we educate the younger generation today, it will consequently create a cleaner and greener future.
Furthermore, teachers and parents can take children on specialist ‘recycle walks’. Classes of all different ages can take short walks around the school grounds to see how much plastic is found along the way.
Activities in school
There are many ways to get both the younger and older children involved in recycling activities. First of all get creative – set a plastic fantastic competition. Set the children a task to create a piece of artwork using 2 empty plastic bottles. The plastic masterpiece could represent a robot, plant pot or a even a pencil case. The best creation wins! Remember – 2 plastic bottles can make 1 Keltic eco school tie.
Another activity is to set older children short, fun recycle quiz’s, therefore the knowledge will ‘sink in’.
Finally, all children love colouring-in. Print a plastic bottle picture or the recycling logo and let children colour them in, talking to them along the way.
Request a school visit
As a result of the huge success eco ties is showing we offer school visits to UK schools (staff, pupils and parents) who want to know more about the process of making eco ties. Our first school visit is coming up in July. Keep a look out.
