Now we’re sure you’ve heard of the infamous Windsor tie knot, also known as the double or Full Windsor Tie Knot to establish it from the half. Compared with the latter, the Windsor leaves you with a symmetrical, wide knot which is thought to be named after the Duke of Windsor who usually wore his ties with a wide knot.
This knot is especially popular with many of our customers who order their ties at a longer length than our standard adult length to ensure it is long enough for the Windsor knot. That being said, this knot is suitable for anyone who wishes to make a statement with their tie and is simple once you know how (some of our staff had a go at tying it for the first time and we’re happy to say they succeeded!).
How to tie a Windsor Knot
1. Cross the front of the tie over the tail, then bring it up under the neck band on the same side
2. Bring the front back over the neck band, again on the same side.
3. Cross the front behind the tail to the left.
4. Bring the front up over the neck band.
5. Still holding the front of the tie, bring it down again under the neck band on the same side
6. Cross the front of the tie over to the right.
7. Pull the front up under the neck band, loosen the loop you have just created in step 6 and feed the blade through.
8. Adjust the knot to sit comfortably against your shirt collar.
Congratulations, you have just tied your Windsor knot! This one may take a little practice to get the knot where you want it but you will soon master it, we promise!
