The half windsor tie knot is easy to learn and creates a symmetrical knot which is great if your tie isn’t quite long enough to tie a full windsor. This one is quick to tie although can be a little difficult to un-do at the end of the day.
The half windsor gains its name from being similar to the windsor; the tie is brought up around the neck loop on one side as opposed to both.
How to tie a Half Windsor Knot
- Cross the front of the tie over the tail, then underneath it in the opposite direction.
- Bring the front up over the neck band to the right
- Still holding the front, turn it down through the neck band on the opposite side
- Cross over the front of the tie from left to right
- Pull the front up through the neck band, loosen the loop you created in step 4 and feed the blade through.
- Adjust the knot to sit comfortably against your shirt collar.
You’ve just perfected your half windsor knot, congratulations!
